Playdough Recipe used by our parents at Gumnuts!

Some parents have enquired how to make the wonderful soft playdough available at Gumnuts. Here is the Recipe! - its a cook one. At home the recipe can be halved and do do 2 different colours in 2 separate pans. Its best to do in a frying pan rather than a saucepan, as its easier to turn it as it congeals. Takes about 8-10 mins to congeal and you can definitely tell when its done. Lasts for ages, much longer than store bought playdoh.

2 tbsp cooking oil

4 tbsp Cream of Tartar

2 cups of plain flour

1 cup of salt

Food colouring. (Sparkles can also be added).

2 cups water

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan or frying pan and stir over medium heat for 5-10 minutes, until the mixture congeals.

And its not toxic if your little one decides to take a bite...or three. This makes quite a lot of dough, can be halved if you want less, or more colours. I used much less salt (half) and it still worked fine.

Parents, children, grandparents, carers, au-pairs, mums and dads, neighbours, friends;

Gumnuts Playgroup Malvern Inc provides preschool children and their parents or carers with a natural indoor and outdoor space promoting socialisation and creative, independent play. Parents can come at whatever time suits them to enjoy the wide variety of toys and activities. We also organise themed activities on a regular basis.

Gumnuts Playgroup is different from other playgroups, in that it does NOT limit parents to a particular session only. Parents can bring any or all of their children to Gumnuts on weekends, or early mornings - whenever suits them really. This is an invaluable resource! and worth paying a bit extra for membership.

Our annual Membership includes:
  • Use of fully equipped kitchen including tea and coffee supplies;
  • Upkeep, cleaning and maintenance of rooms, outdoor sheds and equipment and the purchase of new items;
  • Regular organized themed activities;
  • One membership for the entire family;
  • Membership runs from March to end of February and must be renewed each year to remain a member.

Below are some pics of our new equipment purchased with longevity, quality and safety in mind.

Gumnuts Playgroup is a non-profit organisation run by a Committee of parent volunteers, which was established back in 1984!. All members are welcome to join the Committee or to attend the meetings.
